When we plan to complete a task or project but do not follow through, it registers in our mind that the task still needs to be done.
When we say we will do something for someone and do not keep our word, it registers in our mind.
When we tell ourselves that we are going to change a habit and then do not follow through, it registers.
Think of your mind like a chalk board in a classroom that goes along the full length of 3 different walls. You start writing at one end and then you need more room so you move over and keep writing.
Once you reach 1/4 way along the board you start to complete some of the tasks.
You reach 1/2 way across the board and you have completed most of the tasks. You keep going and you only have 10% of the board left. You have forgotten some of the tasks that were left at the beginning of the board.
You now have completed most of the board and move to a new board along another wall. You are happy you completed most of that chalk board.
The thing is, even though you have moved on, your brain has not. Deep down hidden under other successfully completed tasks and the passage of time, are those incomplete tasks.
Try to ignore them as we will, they are still there. Everything registers.
We need to back-up and complete each outstanding item one at a time.
You will be amazed at how cluttered our minds can become. I have found that as I have cleared this mentally registered clutter, I have experienced a lightness (peace), increased creativity and productivity.
Everything registers. Including freedom from the bondage to the ‘To Do’ list.
Do not stress, just begin and keep going. You can do this!
