How to Get Into the Habit of Reading Your Bible

Study your Bible with the same or improved methods you use normally use to learn other things.

Consider how you study if you have taken courses to upgraded your skills, obtained new employment or a new role at work.

Think about which ways are easier for you to learn. In the past, to improve the habit of reading my Bible daily, I read a Bible comic book to get things going.

When you are picking your Bible, pick one that you can understand. It is of little help to you if it is in verbiage that is hard to understand.

There are also some great study bibles that explain the scriptures. Learning your Bible is not a timed competition, find what works for you.

Some will laugh or scoff at this but pick a Bible that you like the way it looks. You can get it in the translation that works for you as there are many choices. If you like the colour, design and texture, this can have a surprising effect on how often you pick it up.

I have purchased planners that were great but they did not work for me. When I purchased a style I liked, at the end of those years I was amazed by how much more I had used them. I have tested this over the years and know it to be true for me.

Do not be afraid to write in your Bible. I had mine for years and had a sense of pride that it looked just as good as when I purchased it! It looked almost untouched, and it was. Your Bible is yours, make notes in it that help you.

Do not be embarrassed to start small. One paragraph a day is better then none. We are trying to build the habit, not worry about the amount. You will read more as you go along because the Bible really has everything in there! It becomes more interesting as you go along.

Pick a good spot, with hopefully little distractions. It you have to, put on earphones to discourage conversations.

We handle life better when we are equipped daily with His Word.

Happy reading!

16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is valuable for teaching the truth, convicting of sin, correcting faults and training in right living; 17 thus anyone who belongs to God may be fully equipped for every good work.

Your word is a lamp to my feet
And a light to my path.

For whatever was written in earlier times was written for our instruction, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope and overflow with confidence in His promises.
